Do you consider this table a masculine one? When I pulled it down from the top of the pile to use as desk during a garage sale it just struck me that this table is masculine. With its dark color and heavy, substantial legs it has a presence even though it isn’t very large. All of a sudden, I couldn’t wait to make it come alive.
I decided to use Dixie Belle Paint because I still hadn’t tried it on a wooden piece. You can see the other projects here, here and here. I knew the exact colors I would use. – Midnight on the body and Plum Crazy on the little part where the books go. And on the underside of the table top.
For the table top, I sanded the finish off. A masculine table has to have a stained top. I wiped it down because it was covered with sawdust, go figure right?
I had to tape off the areas where the Plum Crazy color was going to go. The surface is a is small area but the color is so strong it can hold its own. It took 2 coats but it is good coverage and the paint goes on smooth.
After the paint dried, I pulled off the tape and retaped over the Plum Crazy. Time to paint on the Midnight. One coat gave a great cover over the dark wood. But I did do a second coat around in some areas. I also sanded in a couple of spots and repainted but I didn’t distress the table.
The paint dried and it was time to stain the top. I used the Java Gel and it gave the top a deep rich look. The top was waxed with clear and then dark wax.
Now for the body of the table, I used the wax from Dixie Belle. It was applied with the waxing brush. It has to set up for about 20 minutes and then it can be buffed off. I used a soft cloth and the drill attachment brush.
I knew my vision of the masculine table was right when my neighbor stopped by. He liked it and when I asked him do you consider this table a masculine one he said yes and bought it before I even finished it. How about that!
