I didn’t plan on painting the shelf in orange and brown. It just happened. When I got my package from Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company, one of the colors I selected is Pumpkin. I had to use it, the first project I did is a pumpkin, then another pumpkin. That was the beginning of my pumpkin patch. I decided to have a little fun and paint a shelf for Halloween so I could display all of the pumpkins.
I have had the shelf in my guest room for ages and finally decided to paint it. It seemed like a natural to use OFMP but I certainly didn’t plan on these color choices of Pumpkin and Driftwood. Now Driftwood is one of my favorite colors in the line. The Pumpkin is not an in your face orange. That is why I love it.
Orange can be a hard color to live with so I decided to use it as the base coat. But before I even painted I wiped the little handmade shelf down with white cleaning vinegar and water. Then it got covered with the lovely pumpkin color.
Next, I brushed on the Driftwood. It seemed darker on this piece going over the pumpkin color. The pumpkin peeped out here and there.
To finish it off I decided to use Hemp Oil. It protects the wood but doesn’t make it shiny. Now I am going to take it to the booth and create a display of pumpkins on it. And if it doesn’t sell well that is OK. I will layer another OFMP color on it. But for now, it is fun to think I have a display shelf for Halloween.
