Do you enjoy setting a pretty table? I love all of the different plates, placemats, and chargers, don’t you? It is an easy and inexpensive way to change out the look of your dining room or kitchen. My project for you today is how to get a farmhouse look for your dining room table. And it came from the Dollar Store.
Chargers under the plates add a special touch to the table setting. I enjoy figuring out how to make them rather than spending a fortune on them. I made a galvanized set from pizza pans and spiffed up a set from the Dollar store for Christmas.
This set is made from a metal wreath ring, spray painted with bronze spray paint.
But I’m not calling it done yet. I cut a piece of chicken wire to give it that farmhouse look. Cut it in a circle with tin snips. I had the other side of the cable spool to use as a pattern. I made a lazy susan with the one side(click here to see what I made).
Be careful and you may want to wear gloves. Make it slightly larger than the opening.
Take the wire and start crimping the edges around the opening of the metal wreath ring. Use needlenose pliers. Be sure to make it taut so it doesn’t snag. Don’t worry if the wire isn’t perfect. It won’t matter.
After the chicken wire is crimped all the way around, snip off any excess wire. Now you can’t leave the rough edges so take jute twine and start wrapping it around the edge where the wire is attached to the wreath ring. To start it I tied it and dabbed a little hot glue so it would be secure.
It is tedious but if you watch a favorite show the time will fly by. It is easier to work in smaller lengths. To add more tie it together. Make sure the knot is covered when you wrap it around.
When the edge is covered knot it and dab glue to secure it. And repeat for however many chargers you need.
Now get out the farmhouse accessories and set the table for a farmhouse look. How to get a farmhouse look for your dining room table is so easy and inexpensive. Don’t you agree?
