How To Update for Spring by Shopping Your House. The signs of spring are all around us. Yes even in Florida. Not only is the calendar telling me it is Spring, but I have the fever, Spring Fever. It is time to lighten and brighten.
So the first thing I did was to gather up everything I had placed in closets, drawers and the garage that seemed like Spring. Then I laid them all out to get an idea of the direction I wanted to take. I felt I could always go shopping to fill in.
I started by taking everything off the mantel. Since Easter and Spring fall so close this year I thought it would work by doing a bunny theme. I bought this big terracotta bunny planter from Ballard Designs a few years back. On the mantel it went.
The bunny set the theme. I only focused on the mantel, coffee table and the table in the small entry way.
I put different items opposite the bunny to balance him out. Nothing appealed to me until I put the little oil painting I found at the thrift store and painted the mat on the opposite end of the mantel. I got a few books and placed them by the painting. I started looking for more decorative terracotta pots and plants. The mantel got the succulent. And don’t ask me what it is. I bought it for a $1.00 at the garden club and kept rooting more. They are so easy to grow and care for.
I kept going back to look at the whole thing and then could figure out what I should do. I added a piece of pottery my friend, Sue gave me and the whole thing came together.
Then I tackled the entry way table. I placed the bird house on one end. To balance the other end I put another terracotta pot on it along with a little bunny. I needed a plant and lucky for me, my orchids are starting to bloom. One got the place of honor on the table.
I could see a theme here, bunny’s, terracotta and green. The coffee table got the green metal tray with another terracotta pot and the other orchid. A few more books to elevate the bird cage with the 3rd bunny and I was done.
Of course you know one thing always leads to another. Years ago I had 3 sets of slipcovers made, unfortunately I ruined the white set so I put on the set that I think of as the vintage look. It has some green and terracotta in the print. But no bunnies.
It cured my spring fever. I showed you how I updated for Spring by shopping the house. And I didn’t have to spend any money. And that is how I updated for Spring by Shopping my House

Debra, your house has been overrun by bunnies! They are actually the perfect way to decorate for spring. I really don’t have any, but this year I m actually thinking of spring as a separate season. We usually go from mild winter straight into summer. Happy Spring Debra!
Mary, Florida can be like that also. Although today it feels more like our winter. But I will say Happy Spring to you. Thanks
I love shopping my house! I usually pull a box out of the basement for whatever season it is and then pull from my bookcases. Love that little painting and it all turned out so well!
Thank you so much. I am really enjoying the bunny on the mantel. Although I must confess, I leave him out all year but not on the mantel.:)

Thank you. I do like the bunnies. They’re going to hang around for a few more days.
