This little stool has been kicking around in my garage for a while (like a lot of stuff LOL). And as I would move it out of my way an idea finally came to me. I thought wouldn’t it look cute with a bee on it. And I knew exactly how it should bee. I couldn’t resist, sorry. I will show you how to update furniture with a transfer.
Have you ever heard of a site called The Graphics Fairy? It is a wonderful website with graphics you can use. I first tried it on a tray I made. I searched for a graphic and found the exact one I had in mind.
The site also shows how a graphic is transferred. I use the wax paper method. It is easy and you should have everything you need.
The little stool had a painting of flowers on top. I quickly took care of the flowers with my sander. I didn’t worry about the legs. Then I wiped it down with Murphy’s Oil soap. I went back over the legs with deglosser.
I always like to layer. It sort of makes me think of a primer. Plus the color peeking through gives the piece an aged look. In this case, I used the gray paint mixed with Poppie’s Furniture Paint Powder as the first coat.
The next two coats of paint were the cream. Both colors were left over from the French look dresser.
After the paint dried the stool got a light sanding. Then I followed the directions on how to transfer. I was ready to complete the transformation.
To protect the bee I used a spray protective top coat. But the stool legs got a coat of wax.
The graphic is just another way to update furniture. It gives it personality and charm, don’t you think so? And how to update furniture with a transfer is much easier than you think.
