Summer is here, now is the time to summerize your house. Did I just make up a word? I think you probably know what I mean.
I take the frugal route. Since my summer decorating things have been stored away since September I feel like they are new. So once again I shopped my house to give it a summer look
I don’t do a lot in all of the rooms. Just a little here and there. For instance in the bedroom I took the throw I used in the winter and replaced it with a cream one. I probably don’t even need one but the cats like taking their naps on the soft throw so it is really for them. I left the pillows, at least for now until I sew new covers. The cream throw lightens up the room.
I love place mats and napkins. I change them out for each season, sometimes each month during a certain season. To me summertime means shells, red, white and blue, picnics and sunny days. For quick napkin rings I cut some twine and hot glued small shells on the end. The placemats are drop cloth cut to size, frayed all around. A drop of Fray Check at the edges prevents further fraying.
So last year I decided I need lobster napkins. I bought material and make the ones in the kitchen which are red and white and paired them with solid white placemats. The dining room got a set of place mats and lobster napkins from Home Goods. The centerpiece is an old picnic basket filled with shells.
Moving to the Great Room, I only changed up the vignette on the coffee table by filling a small dough bowl with shells. I made the shell on the stand with an old candlestick painted black with a shell glued on it. I placed it on a stack of books and scattered more shells nearby.
And that is really all I have done to summerize my house. It was quick and easy. I am ready for the long, hot Florida summer. I found items similar to mine. Some of the things I made or bought last year and are not available
